Starring: Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole

Wonderful movie! Well acted! The plot was very cleverly written -- no Becket

wonder the screenplay won an Oscar. Peter O'Toole plays King Henry energetically as he spanks his son in anger: "Here's my royal foot on your royal buttocks ." Henry is angry that his whorring buddy, who has repented of his sins, and has chosen to lead a truly noble life. It is remarkable how great these two actors are. Of course, both received nominations for Best Actor, but this was the year of My Fair Lady, and George Harrison was unstoppable!

Richard Burton, playing Thomas a Becket, gives us an amazing performance with inspirational monologues, like: " Honor is a private matter within; it's an idea, and every man has his own version of it." How true this statement is! And Thomas a Becket's memorable quotes are made lighter by the comic relief provided by Peter O'Toole and his Queen: Queen Matilda: Oh, if I were a man!

King Henry II: Thank God, madam, He gave you breasts! An asset from which I derived not the slightest benefit.
