His Girl Friday (1940, Comedy)His Girl Friday (1

from amazon.com

Starring: Cary Grant and Rasalind Russell. Play written by: Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur.

Adapted from the play, The Froitpage, Hecht and MacArthur have created a delightful little romantic comedy. The movie made several changes, including creating the two main characters as a bickering divorced couple. Cary Grant was the obvious pick for Walter Burns. He had started his career, performing as a musical comedian. However, the leading lady ,Hidegaard "Hildy, was a bit more difficult to come by. In fact, Rosaland Russell knew she wasn't the top pick, so she arrived with wet hair to her first rehearsal. How irritated the director must have been with this fickle actress! This movie propelled Cary Grant's popularity as a great romantic comedian. He never actually won an Oscar for a film, but was awarded an honorary Oscar. Cute movie! :-)
