Top Pick, Given an A by Nicole Kent
Starring: Bette Davis and Henry Fonda
Bette Davis plays her most memorable role as Julie Marsden, earning her a much-coveted Oscar. She plays this conniving, manipulating, shrew of a woman perfectly. I was
feeling quite sorry for Julie. I was hoping and wishing that her ex-fiancée would forgive Davis, and dump his new sweet wife, because in a way I agreed with Julie's arguments: Preston was a part of her. They grew up together, and knew each other like no other. On the other hand, Preston and Julie were so different, so I do believe the movie ended the correct way. In a way, this film was similar to My Best Friend's Wedding, exceptional movie! I can see why Davis won her Academy Award, she is wonderful in the scene where Preston Dillard is banging on her door during a little quarrel. The chemistry she has with Henry Fonda is unmistakable! :-)
