Movies are never as good as the book, that includes most musicals. Before watching this light operetta, I read Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, and loved every moment of this literary journey. I was
disappointed that the musical eliminated one of the heroines, Rose. She was my favorite character from the book. Click here to read Nicole's review of this enchanting book!
The elimination of Rose takes away the romantic scenes, so of course, you're making the plot more concise, but not without eliminating some touching dialogue.
This movie has become Nicole's Top Pick for January 2004, because I love the music! The lyrics are catchy and memorable. The words are cleverly written, and I was singing them for weeks. This musical has made my Top Five list for musicals, so watch it ..... and "consider yourself" to be watching a phenomenal musical, the Best Picture of 1968! :-)
