Apartment, The (1960, Comedy
Starring: Jack Lemmon, Shirley MacClain, and Howard MacMurray. Director: Billy Wilder.
Earning its well-deserved title for Best Picture, Billy Wilder continues to amaze us with his creations. The plot of this movie could have been taken from an episode of Days of Our Lives. I mean, the whole story was this convoluted sleaze. I thought I was watching
some modern-day trash. It had as a theme promiscuity, and I was not surprised that it would win Best Picture because after all, it was not nominated for any other categories. And it was a funny little movie concerning adult issues about extramarital affairs in the work place. I was surprised to note that this movie would have received so much recognition in 1960. I could understand this film winning in 1970 or 1980, but 1960 seems a bit early for such a risque plot. Interesting movie, innapropriate story! :-)
