Cheaper by the Dozen (2003)
Starring: Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Hilary Duff, Piper Perabo, Tom Welling
by Kelly Kent
I liked this family movie very much! This story seems a little contrived,
but it's cleverness makes up for. The scene where the father has to get everyone
to be quiet so he uses a megaphone to quiet them down was very cute. I especially
liked the scenes with Ashton Kutcher. Kutcher, who can only play this role,
plays the dumb boyfriend who knows he' s not that good of an actor so he has
to protect his face since that is what gets him jobs (which is probably true
in real life). The little twins in this movie are adorable. I would recommend
this movie to all!
Cheaper by the Dozen (1950)
Starring: Clifton Webb, Jeanne Crain, Myrna Loy, Betty Lynn, Edgar Buchanan,
Barbara Bates, Mildred Natwick, and Sara Allgood
The original version of Cheaper by Dozen was made in
1950 and still holds strong today. This movie has no similarity to the modern
version except there are twelve kids. This movie shows the changes in the
role of the father. In the 1920s, the father was the head of the house and
had control of the children and saw to it that the children were
able
to walk down the staircase in a speedy fashion. While in the modern version
the father cannot control the kids and is the bad guy for taking the family
away from their home where everyone had friends and grew up. This movie also
shows what life was like in the 1920s for a teenage girl who belonged to a
family with twelve kids. There is a scene that is particularly funny involving
a woman asking the mother if she would like to be the hostess of the meeting
every month for the birth control club. The mother asks her why she would
ask her and the Lady replies that her neighbor volunteered her. Overall ,
this is a great family film!
