The Great Escape (1963, Drama)The Great Escape

from amazon.com

Staring: Steve McQueen, James Garner, Charles Bronson and Donald Pleasence. Director; John Sturgess:. Book written by Paul Brickhill.

Well, this movie was entertaining. Those men were very diligent about causing so much confusion on D-Day to allow the Allied Forces to save that mighty fighting force, better known as France, from ruin. The leading actor, Steve McQueen plays the American hero, Captain Virgil wonderfully. During the latter part of shooting the film, McQueen took off, complaining how he did not feel like he, Captain Virgil, was being portrayed as a hero. Fortunately, McQueen returned being persuaded how Captain Virgil has returned with necessary information, which enables some other men to escape. The producer explained to McQueen that he was playing the true American hero. The producer agreed to add a dramatic motorcycle chase scene near the end of the movie which convinced McQueen to return to this project. Good movie! A bit long, however. I am not sure I approved of this revision of history, because according to the book the men were British soldiers, not American. But, this is Hollywood!
