Love
Story (1970)
ing: Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal
This movie sort of reminded me of Charlie (mormon novella) without the Mormon aspects. Therefore, I did not like it as well as I would have if I had not had the opportunity to watch Charlie first. I found the witty banter between the two leading actors quite funny! The dialogue was good and sassy.
The romantic parts carried the movie. The scene where "the preppy" carries Jennifer across the threshold, commenting on her weight. Then, of course, she responds with the news about her pregnancy. Then, she admits to the joke, making the audience a part of this delightful newlywed humor. These newlyweds are so poor, and it is hilarious when Edward graduates from law school, and receives a gift from his millionaire father, "500 BIG ones!" The reaction this enormous present gets is remarkable; my sister chuckled at this scene. However, this movie seemed too long. It seemed to last 20 minutes. I kept wishing that Jennifer would die already so I could do something else with my valuable time. Decent movie! But I can see why it did not receive any Academy Awards, just nominations. And the final line: "Love means never having to say you're sorry." I'm sorry, but these characters have obviously not experienced marriage yet, because saying "I'm sorry" is a pretty normal utterance.
