People Will Talk

Starring: Cary Grant, Jeane Crain. Play written by: Carl Goetz.

McCartheism was at its height. People were being pressured to name names. Medical men, particularly doctors educated in professional schools were persecuted. The ordinary folk mistrusted any formal education, especially when it concerns their own well-being. Interesting movie! I have mixed feelings about this movie. On one hand, I enjoyed the unusual romance between the two leading actors. The plot was certainly new and unique. Some of the scenes had me howling, like the scene where the doctors are playing with their electronic trains. I asked my father, "Is that what you do at medical conferences, play with your choo-choo trains?" Of course, I was just kidding. :-) This story made a clever play written by Carl Goetz, and the thought-provoking dialogue made the characters all the more entertaining.

On the other hand, there were just too many unbelievable details in this strange story. Medical schools don't have orchestras, sorry, because med students just don't have enough time. Furthermore, the romance is cute, but highly unrealistic. Great movie, but then again, it depends on my mood! :-)
